"The music is not in the notes, but in the silence between." - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Federico Bracalente was born in Fermo, Italy, in 1982. He began studying cello at the age of 5. He trained with Mario Brunello and Giovanni Sollima while furthering his studies in the baroque and classical repertoire with Stefano Veggetti and Cristophe Coin.

He has played in chamber ensembles at numerous festivals – Suoni delle Dolomiti, Ravello Festival, Festival Violoncellistico Alfredo Piatti, Les Recontres de Calenzana, Mantova Chamber Music Festival, Festival Musicale Piceno, Venice Fondation, Mantova Chamber Music Festival, Jazz Italiano per le Terre del Sima, Amici della Musica di Firenze e Ancona, .. – given recitals, and worked with artists such as Wolfram Christ, Francesco Di Rosa, Daniele di Bonaventura, Paolo Fresu, as well as with principals of the Berliner Philharmoniker and the Teatro alla Scala. He is a member of influential Italian chamber music ensembles, including the Orchestra da Camera di Mantova and the Orchestra d’Archi Italiana. In 2017 he founded the Cubis Project, a string quartet with whom he opened the Radiohead concert in the Sferisterio arena in Macerata.

Federico Bracalente has always had a strong interest in the rhetorical and poetic aspects of Early music, and a predilection for historically informed performances of Baroque and Classical music on original instruments, with particular interest in transitional authors. Taking the music of the 17th and 18th centuries as his starting point, his research leads him to new sound universes and unusual repertoires, and to important musicians from a variety of backgrounds. He recently published the disc “IN SPIRITUM – Music for Cello and Bandoneon” for Brilliant Classics, with the bandoneonist Daniele di Bonaventura. The disc was featured by several international music magazines and was broadcast by BBC. In 2017 he recorded the six sonatas for cello and b.c. written by P. Pericoli with the harpsichordist Nicola Procaccini, issued by Brilliant Classics.

Federico is the artistic director of “Metamorfosi Festival” and he’s also the creator and developer of “Bach e il Romanico nel Piceno”. He has taught Chamber Music at Conservatorio Canepa of Sassari. His discography includes records published by Egea, Brilliant Classics, Hyperion, Exit Live.
